Strange Things Afoot in Blacksburg
Nov. 3rd, 2002 12:23 pmHi, folks. Sorry for the lack of updates, my life is quite busy right now. But I've come back to tell you about the curious happenstances in Blacksburg and other places.
I went to a party last week hosted by VTSFFC (Virginia Tech Science Fiction and Fantasy Club). It was pretty good. We had a game room in the basement of the building we had it in -- which turned out to be a good thing, since nobody danced upstairs except for myself and a few others. While the others dancing were actually quite skilled at it, I was not, and thus I feel that my dancing looked akin to a guy having a seizure or something. All I can say is this: that's what happens when complete geeks dance.
Not long after that, my computer crashed died. I managed to get it working again, despite my computer manufacturer's crappy excuse for a recovery CD. It working now, but it has random problems, and it reboots at odd intervals. So, I'm going to reformat and reinstall Windows. I have a friend who's willing to lend me an extra HD for backing up my files. But he hasn't contacted me. What's worse, the C++ class I'm in has another project due sometime soon, and I'm expected to use Visual Studio .NET (which I couldn't use for the first part of the course due to the TA's PhD project). So this is time-critical. *sigh*
One thing that has surprised the bejeebers out of me in the past few days is the weather. First it was really nice - not a cloud in the sky, and warm enough for a light jacket (or sometimes no jacket at all). Recently, it's turned bitter cold and really windy. It's a bad thing when the wind chill drops the temperature 9 degrees. The whole of Blacksburg seems to be a giant wind tunnel. Yesterday, I had to wear two jackets just to keep warm. In mid-autumn!! I miss Charlottesville already...
Another odd thing...Anime Club has been cancelled for two weeks in a row. Apparently, we lost our room with the video projector, and Becca (the "president") is having trouble coming up with a projector. But why did we lose the room in the first place, I wonder? No discussion as of yet. Hopefully, she'll get it straightened out soon...I miss my Fruits Basket...
Anyway, that's my spiel. I have a few things coming up, so I might post some more in a week or two. Until then...
