A word of advice: never rely on the government to do anything right.

Before Christmas, I had signed up for a federal work placement program that interviewed for places in government offices. I figured I had a chance at summer work, so I signed up. I prepared for it, retyped my resume, dressed up nice, filled out the requisite forms, and proceeded to the interview.

Ninety seconds after I arrived, I was sent back downstairs. Apparently, they forgot to tell me that I didn't have enough credit hours for the program. "Try back next year," they said. I was farking mad. Because of their incompetence, I've lost my hopes of a good summer job. The lady who organized it all apologized and showed my to the career services office. The person there took my name, major, desired work, etc. Then she told me my best opportunity for finding an internship would be to go through people I knew in the field. Big help that was.

So here I sit, working on finding a way to get a summer internship. It wouldn't have been necessary if it hadn't been for the utter incompetence of Virginia Tech's Dean of Students Office. Congratu-fricking-lations to them.
