Stupid wind. Blows people over, makes me cold. Anyway what's been happening with me:

  • Got my laptop back yesterday. They replaced the motherboard (good) and updated the BIOS (bad). Unfortunately, now it hangs when I try to make it enter sleep mode. *sigh* Why did they have to screw with the BIOS? It was working fine before they did, and now I'm stuck navigating Dell's support forums (which I want to do before I confront the Indians that don't speak English on the Tech Support line). So far, no luck.
  • Chem lab astounds me. Last lab, they told us that no lab report would be needed -- just fill out the forms in the manual and turn them in next lab. Turns out that the forms were essentially a lab report, only you had to hand write it. What was the point? To make us think we were getting off easy? This week, we had an even longer lab on -- wait for it -- ball and stick models. And I almost got blown over trying to get there. Grr.

That's what's stood out recently. I have an OOP test tomorrow, then I get started on the Unix project. Gods help me.

Ah, happened to me too, when I had repairs done to my thinkpad. Upgraded bios and video driver while trying to figure out what was wrong after it came back (turns out the video on the new MB was bad). After that it wouldn't suspend anymore, because it couldn't get the video driver to unload, and downgrading didn't help. Ended up installing XP to fix it!

Well, the part I really like: I found out that I can't downgrade my BIOS. Dell has taken over the job of making BIOSes from Phoenix, and they've enforced their ownership by making the crossover from the Phoenix to the Dell BIOS revision permanent. So, if it's broken, it's broken for good.

Anyway, called tech support. She's having me run a full diagnostic. Hopefully, it'll be finished before VTSFFC is -- that's when she's calling me back.
