Sep. 16th, 2003 11:16 amThe last few days have been interesting. Went to the mall on Sunday to pick up a copy of Moonbase Commander, and ended up picking up a couple of other things as well. Monday was sort of a blur. I didn't get any work accomplished.
Today started out on the wrong foot. We're doing regex in the Unix lab, which they didn't really teach very well, IMO. I couldn't figure out half of what to do without the TA's help, and I stayed the entire time. Gah.
For all those of you taking the gender quiz, here is a more refined version that gives more statistics. You have to copy and paste the text manually, though. Trying it out on a bunch of my friends (some female, some not) led to only 2 of my female friends being recognized as female. Looking at the statistics for the bookblog version of this toy, it was only right 51% of the time. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Frankly, I think the algorithm used to make the gender determination is flawed in the sense that they used a wide range of data (the British National Corpus from 1960 on), and that might have been too wide a focus. I imagine that writing has become more gender-neutral in the past 40 years. But, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
In any case, lunch is called for, along with doses of MultiVar and Chemistry.
