The Consolidation of Radio in America"The consolidation of radio stations is a serious problem, but not for the reasons most people who oppose it claim."

Nothing much going on in my part of the galaxy. Started reading The Dispossessed, which I was going to read in SF class until it got taken off the list. Stayed up half the night reading it (after surfing the net for the first half). So far, it seems interesting.

Still looking for a person or two to go to Otakon with my friend and I. No takers after posting to three different lists at once (sorry for all those cross-postings). May have to give it up soon.

ISP got back to us, finally. I had to email them as Mom (with her permission, of course) and threaten legal action. They've refunded her May payment, so her next payment is due in July. Thank goodness.

Went to my (adopted) sister's chorus concert. A few people recognized me. I'm glad people still remember me.

Other than that...nothing out of the ordinary.

Kinda stayed up all night (took a 30-minute nap), during which time I finished The Dispossessed. Mom went off about 7-ish or so to go to a fabric store in Dayton (I'm guessing VA, not OH), some 3 hours away. Came back around 15:00. She made me set up her computer to use the new ISP we got (see last post). Still rasslin' with DUN bug in W98 that won't save passwords. She then thanked me by getting me MoO3 for free. She ate 5 bucks for shipping and it'll be here in a week. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jdunson for the info.

While I was online, I decided to find a replacement service for CallWave, whose profiteers decided to start charging $50/year for net voice mail service (you can catch calls while online). I found a reasonable replacement in BuzMe, that gives me Caller ID and the chance to respond to the person on the other end (through a text-to-speech thing; I type in the message and it is read to the caller). Now I've just got to install it on Mom's computer and wait for the ring forward on busy number to change. Then I finished the Five post I started this morning.

Now I've just got to get Mom to do the laundry already...

The drama teacher from my old high school called me today. I could tell by her lilting voice coming over the phone at full blast. Mom could hear it, and she was 10 feet away. She (the teacher) wanted my help in running sound for a community production of Father of the Bride. She wanted to get the best, and apparently I was it.

I agreed to help. It's only for a week, and I'll get to see my old friends again. Plus, it'll give me something to do while I'm waiting to start work. Mom heard about this, and mentioned that one of her co-workers was acting in it. She almost giggled herself to death. Frankly, I don't see what's so humorous. It's just a sound job, after all.

Ugh, laundry tomorrow. Means I'll be getting up at the ass-crack of dawn to play pack mule in getting the laundry there, spend three hours waiting for the laundry to get done, then loading it back to the car. *sigh* Such is my life.
