And now for a real post.

A number of things have happened beside my getting the server back up.

First, I left my job last Monday (the 13th). Long story short: After the list of tasks I was to do this summer suddenly evaporated, I was getting frustrated with the make-work they were having me do while they found me something else, mainly due to the equipment malfunctioning. Eventually, I asked to be transferred to another department. They said nothing was available, and due to my lackluster performance in the vitally important task of scanning 8-year-old documents (which was due to the scanner breaking down), they felt it in everyone's best interest if I were to pursue my interests outside the company. After all, they said, it wouldn't do at all to be fired from a summer job. I took the hint and resigned. The boss was an asshole anyway, and the job wasn't going anywhere. Unfortunately, I would have to resume work after Origins, so there's not really the possibility of getting another computing job. So I'm going to apply to temp agencies to see if I can get some more money before I leave, doubtful as the prospect looks. Hopefully, that will go better.

I made enough money, at least, to let me go to Origins. And I am now officially set to go. Got my ride, room, and everything else. Thankfully, the bus stop is only a mile from the convention center. The bus ride, however, is 16 hours. Ugh. I can manage, I think.

My desktop is back on its feet. Either the video card, mobo, or power supply was the problem, because I got a new motherboard and power supply, and everything works like a charm. As a bonus, I got a spiffy new case that's a lot smaller now, which means I can actually fit it on a shelf in my room, or even take it to a LAN party. Unfortunately, my old GF4 doesn't fit, so I only have my mobo's integrated graphics; no games until I get a new video card. But everything else works fine.
