May. 28th, 2005 12:11 amSo, my first week of work has been completed. Not exactly my best job ever, but my highest-paying, so I'll be keeping at it, barring anything Bad happening. Recently, my immediate boss has been trying to play armchair web designer, asking for changes here or there. Mind you, the changes she wants have been small so far -- but they still make my inner web geek scream. Buttons for hyperlinks, for example, which, in my opinion, went out of style along with the <BLINK> tag. Plus other niggles that to the uninformed person might make sense, but go against things I've learned from experience and education.
Since the design's not done yet, and not on the web space, I can't get the opinions of the others in the department, since they don't take the time to look at the work I've put on the fileshare. I've tried to explain to my boss that overall, the website design should be what works best with the people that are going to use it. She says she understands that, but I work for her and I should do what she wants. *sigh* PHBs.
Of course, any website would be an improvement over the one they have now -- flash buttons for links, totally disorganized and nasty-looking tables, half of the links dead, horrible image scaling...yuck. But I still want to do this right. I take pride in being able to create a simple, elegant, and polished web design. Plus, I'm getting paid a shitload of cash for it, so they should get what they paid me for. But she needs to get off my back.
In other news: Mom got a new car today. She's been talking about it for months, but about a used car. She dropped me off at work in her old Toyota lemon, and picked me up in a brand new "Fiji blue" 2005 Honda Civic from an auto show the local car megadealer was having at the mall. I'm worried that she got ripped off -- she has a habit of being impulsive, and the dealer sold her a new car instead of the old one she went there to get. And it sounds too good to be true -- free repairs for 6 years, free tires for life (barring ones punctured by road hazards), repair at any other Honda dealer for $50, free local towing if there's an accident, etc. etc. I keep waiting for the catch, for the part where the dealer hosed her and made an obscene profit. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, in some non-obvious thing. We'll see down the road, I guess. At least this means we don't have to rent vehicles to go out of town anymore...
I now have a three day weekend. I've been renting movies I've been meaning to see -- Fight Club, Kill Bill Vol. I, Boondock Saints, etc. Does anyone else have any suggestions?
