Went to the VTSFFC New Member Picnic. As per usual procedure, I consumed way too much food, and paid for it that evening. Oog. There were a number of new people there, but only one female stayed for any appreciable amount of time. As I was trying to make her feel welcome, I talked to her a bit when nobody else was. Then [livejournal.com profile] rainbowsaber and [livejournal.com profile] kittenchan came over and showed her how to control men with boobs (they were both wearing bikini tops). For a good bit now -- at least, while I've been around them -- the two of them have talked about dominating men or kidnapping me or something along those lines. I am starting to wonder whether this is their normal mode of behavior when they are together or if this is something specific to me. To be quite honest, I am a little uneasy about this. I am also wondering whether my behavior toward the opposite sex is to blame for this. I am unsure about this, and it's been gnawing at me since I returned to VTSFFC. I just needed to get it off my chest.

In other news, I skipped Discrete today to help with the terascale supercomputer project. They had people installing network cards, testing and racking machines, and decomposing the boxes the network cards came in. I did all three. The computers themselves are in sexy (but heavy!) aluminum cases. The heatsinks on the G5s themselves are massive, taking up a quarter of the interior space. In the process of installing stuff, I met someone else who skipped Discrete as well. We all finished ahead of schedule, so I got back to campus at around 4.

So far, I have a UNIX mini-project (classifying commands into subgroups, for crying out loud), an OOP project (slightly harder), as well as Discrete and Multivariable. Our extra credit assignment this week for Discrete is writing a poem about quantifiers. You can imagine how I feel about that. I suppose this just confirms my hypothesis that you need a doctor with a flashlight to show you where some professors come from.

Now that I've looked at that post, I feel really silly for writing it. I think I'm getting paranoid. And by paranoid, I don't mean good-paranoid. I mean bad-paranoid. I suppose so many things have changed around here that I'm feeling a little out of place. I don't know.
