The First Day

After many a long hour, I have finally moved into my dorm at Virginia Tech. The first obstacle that presented itself was my roommate showing up today. He said that he would be there Friday. I don't mind much, but couldn't he have called me or something? His arrival cost me several hours since he put all his stuff in his room - as well as some peace and quiet. It seems awfully inconsiderate of him. And I'm spending the next six months with him...

Getting the heavy things to my room was truly an ordeal; our handcart couldn't navigate the myriad stairways that I encountered in the dorm. I had to unload the heavy objects, carry the handcart over, and then put the heavy objects back on. And I had a lot of heavy objects.

After a couple of hours, Mom and I started putting together the loft bed. It was difficult at first, but we managed...after getting a lot of the stuff out into the hallway. My bed is right under the smoke alarm and sprinkler system...I'll be the first to know if there's a fire in our room. :) The rest of the stuff was installed with relative ease.

I had left a few things back home by mistake, so Mom and I went to Wal-Mart to get them. After that, she left after dropping me off at the dorm. I miss her, not to mention talking to my friends. Mom called me, but I wasn't in at that moment, so I miust wait till tomorrow.

I'm not sure how to categorize my mood right now. I still feel a little sad leaving everyone behind, yet I don't feel as bad as I was before. I'm also going to miss not having any room to myself, living with a roommate. I got used to having my own space. One of many things that will change...

On the other hand, I do like this new Ethernet connection I have now. I could get used to this. I've downloaded a lot of stuff I couldn't do at my 56K at home. This will definitely affect my productivity; whether for good or for bad has yet to be determined.
