Like George Lucas, I'm telling the most recent bits first.
Another bomb threat at work today -- this time, on Torg, Whittemore, and Durham. I got evacced from work and sent to Burruss Auditorium along with the other poor bastards forced out of their respective buildings. There, Provost McNamee, a VTPD captain, 2 FBI agents, and some other Important People showed us the bomb threat letter and asked us if we knew anything about who wrote it. They also asked us if we knew anybody with a beef against the university or anyone who's been having personal problems -- relationship issues, etc. *rolls eyes* Methinks the FBI needs to learn that disgruntled people are not necessarily suspects. I voiced my concerns to one of the Agents about not letting this investigation turn into a witch hunt, who seemed somewhat less than open-minded. Guess I can't be too surprised...this is the group who did COINTELPRO and abused National Security Letters, after all.
Text of the message I saw at Burruss:
the bombs planted at Durham/Torgersen/Whittemore will explode THIS WEEKEND. WILL NOT BE FOOLED AGAIN. EXPLOSIONS ARE PLANNED FOR UPCOMING WEEKENDS. -KEED
The FBI guy said this note was very similar to the last one. To be honest, I'm not sure what to think about this. It doesn't sound like a prank, but bombing those buildings don't make sense. There's nothing valuable in terms of infrastructure in them. Those buildings aren't occupied much during the weekend. Why do it? Furthermore, why tell people you're gonna do it? It doesn't add up.
I hope this gets resolved, one way or another. Even so, I'm still going to Spiel tomorrow. Nobody's crapping on my birthday if I can help it. Plus, the Cardinal Room is half-underground anyway...
