Classes, yay....
Aug. 24th, 2003 10:28 pmOK, so classes tomorrow. Not really a good or bad thing. Sure, they're classes, but I'm pretty much steeped in boredom at this point. It'll be nice to be doing something other than exchanging air for CO2 for a change.
My classes seem to be the meat of my education at this point. I have Multivariable Calc (single-variable calc was a struggle for me, so I'm not sure about this), Discrete Math (seems OK...we'll see), UNIX (from what I've heard, it's the class where you write shell scripts -- sounds easy enough, provided Debian cooperates), OOP (more C++, shouldn't be that hard), and Chemistry (this one I'm not sure about). It, I think, will be an interesting year.
Still struggling with Debian. After getting X and some needed applications on the system, I am trying to get sound on it to no avail. It seems like the problem is installing the emu10k1 module (I have an Audigy card). modprobe says it's not there, lspci says it is, and ALSA hangs every time I install it. I've lost count of how many time I've had to reformat the system for that. I'm not sure what to do about it at this point. My two options are 1) try to figure out what's wrong, or 2) reinstall Slackware. Option 2 is looking better and better at this point.
Anyway, things will be interesting, and I'll be looking forward to spending time with all of you.
