OK -- took down lofts, put up bunk beds. Far less space than we had before, although the room seems a bit more spacious due to uncluttered ceiling. Lots of hard labor and manly grunting involved. Reconnected to net to find out that my CS exam is tomorrow. Mild surprise at that, but I am prepared. It's not much anyway -- we basically covered four topics this semester, and the concepts are easy enough. So no big whoop.

Wondered about Spiel meeting. Posted to LJ, got no response. So I had to track down [livejournal.com profile] jazzfish's ICQ, reactivate my own ICQ account (which I haven't used in years), and ask the question. I'm not complaining, but all I can say is thank the gods for Trillian. Anyway, ascertained that there was no Spiel meeting this week. Went anyway in case stragglers came and had their own plans.

None did, so I went to see Wynona LaDuke. If you haven't heard of her, she was Nader's running mate in the 1996 and 2000 elections. An admirable woman if ever I met one. She talked a lot about the environment and alternative energy sources, particularly wind power, which is what her Indian reservation and other reservations are starting electric utilities using. She also talked about corporate crime and corporate greed, pointed out an issue of Fortune magazine where there was an article about the excess of CEO salaries, which had on the cover a pig in a business suit. Another thing that seemed humorous was that she compared Dick Cheney to Dr. Evil because he has all these ideas on energy that, while innovative 30 years ago, are now obsolete. Well, if Cheney is Dr. Evil, I think it's clear that Bush has to be Number Two. Because, who does Number Two work for?

Who does Number Two work for?

She went on to talk about acting locally in our communities to control societal change and providing alternatives to the current system. Questions were asked, and it was over. For all of its two-and-a-half hours, I'm glad I got this chance to see her.

The exam is tomorrow (5/1/03)? The webpage says it's Friday. Did you mistype, or am I about to miss something rather important?

Ah, good. That was rather disconcerting.
