Various Interludes
Oct. 30th, 2006 04:47 pmI know I've been sorta lacking on the real-content posts. So my sleep-depped self is going to try to sum things up:
- iFest went OK. Not as great as I was planning, but neither was it an unmitigated disaster. Most of that resulted from me being sloppy. e-Gaming was half-dead; I didn't get anything in the way of extra TVs, so I had an overabundance of consoles. This does not bode well for TCon.
- My Design of Information group is being a pain. During our design meeting, they used the professor's comments on our designs at a meeting with him as an excuse to ignore most of my opinions and criticisms. Just because my design wasn't appropriate for the audience (which, in retrospect, it wasn't), and the other guy's was, doesn't mean good ideas from one can't be used in the other. Or that some of the ideas were dumb in the first place. *sigh*
- Tried to make bread a while ago with the bread machine I got at the thrift store. Followed the instructions, mixed everything very carefully, turned it on and...the motor didn't work. ~_~ So, I was stuck with a floury mess which I dumped into one of the Ziplocs I had bought for putting bread in. The machine got put in the dumpster. I have a backup bread maker, but that one didn't come with an instruction book, so I'm not sure of the proper proportions. I'll try to figure it out In My Copious Free Time.
- I'm heading to MFF this year. Was going to take the train with
tigerofthewind et al, but I waited too long to buy tickets, and by that point it was only slightly more expensive to fly out of Richmond. But everything is in readiness now. I'm excited, truth be told; this will be my first plane flight, and my first trip to MFF.
- I did room reservation this morning. Getting there around 4:15-4:30, I was #18 in line. Apparently, the first person showed up at 2. Given that, I'm glad that I only have one more of these to go; this is slowly getting out of hand. The sleep dep doesn't help matters.
- I miss people...much of my social circle is either away doing fun stuff or not bothering to talk with me. The isolation has been taking its toll. I'm not batshit crazy yet, but the lack of social interaction beyond the realm of meetings is not helping matters. Thankfully, this is slightly changing (RPG sessions, etc.), if I haven't seen you or talked to you in a while, a call or IM would not go amiss.
I think that's everything. I have astro lab in a few hours, so I suppose I should get up, eat, etc. Catch you all later...
