  • Got a Blue and White Mac G3 tower at a recent Tech surplus auction for $25. Didn't have anything in it but the case, mobo, CPU, and power supply. I'm scrounging parts for it, and so far I have RAM, a hard drive, and (possibly) a CD drive. I'm still missing a cable for the hard drive and a (PCI) video card. A Zip drive (or a cover for the gaping hole in front) would be nice. Otherwise, all I need is a copy of OS X and I'm golden. Pity Tech doesn't provide it (or even sell it, it seems)...
  • I found out (through a letter) that I needed to put a $125 deposit on my phone because they couldn't verify my address. They had my dorm address listed on the letter. I called Customer Service, and was told that I could get my deposit back if I went to a Verizon Store and showed proof of my permanent address when I changed it there. So I go to the one in the mall. They tell me only the one in Roanoke can change it. So much for that idea, unless I can find a way to get to Roanoke. The Smart Bus is one option, since they were giving out free bus tickets today; from there, I can catch a Roanoke bus to the store and back. The logistics are a bit daunting, but I think I can pull it off.
  • Went to the Off-Campus Housing Fair today to gather info in case [livejournal.com profile] anterus, [livejournal.com profile] tigerofthewind, and I need a Plan B. Some good ideas within our price range, and some neat swag too. Got a Nhalgene bottle from Windsor Hills, and two free ride tickets for the Smart Bus to Roanoke. Hopefully, our Plan A will work, but just in case...
  • Beat Metal Gear Solid 3 recently. The plot was a lot easier to follow than MGS2, but felt a lot like a Bond Movie. Also, Kojima-san needs to break out of the habit of lumping all of his plot twists into the space of two minutes; it's a lot harder to follow that way. Still, it explained a lot. There's online content to access as well, but I bought my PS2 NIC used, so the disc used to set up the "Network Configuration file", which I need to get the online stuff working, is missing. Could someone else loan me their copy?
