Yeah, I don't update that much about my life. I need to.

  • A coupla weeks ago, I went to Greensboro with some of VTSFFC to go see the haunted zoo thing they had going on there. But due to us getting sidetracked a bunch of times, we never made there until about 20 minutes before it closed. At that point, the zoo ride sorta sucked. It was designed for kids. Though we got complimented on our costumes we wore to the zoo by the cast members. ("ooo, cute! RAAAARRR!") The trip itself didn't suck, as we met with SF3 to hear a little about Stellarcon. What I took away from it was 1) they have more assholes in their SGA than we do, 2) a buttload of flyers that everyone stuffed in my backpack despite my objections that I only got rid of this past Thursday, and 3) SF3 has some cool people in it.
  • Last week was Halloween. I got my old Star Wars imperial officer costume out, and added my coyote ears and tail (now complete) to it. The VTSFFC party sucked this year, for various reasons that are still being debated on at meetings. They were mostly coincidences, but part of it was bad judgement. Better luck next year, I guess.
  • Woke up at 0530 on Halloween morning to go to Squires and secure rooms for next semester. I was still #14 in line, but I got most of what we wanted. Apparently, I am now the target of an Evil Plan because of this.
  • Helped [livejournal.com profile] yubbie and [livejournal.com profile] colleenk with moving crap around in their mom's house before she goes out of town. It was here that demonstrated my impressive ability to suck-siphon a fish tank.
  • SOAP happened. We discussed care packages and furry shooting, and then after Baxter demonstrated his total lack of knowledge of the group in What Were You Thinking, I proceeded to kick ass in 90s-edition Trivial Pursuit. Whee...

And now there's the Miami game. Buncha screaming football fans in the stadium (and in the rest of town, for that matter). I'm not sure it's safe to go outside...*laughs*

I need food, though. Better risk it. *cocks his SPAS-12*

Something else I've been doing recently is something the local MUG is doing this year. It's called the Cocoa Code Kitchens. This semester I'm going to Torg every Sunday to learn about Cocoa, then next semester I and the others in the group are going to do a project in Cocoa to present to the 2006 WWDC.

Now, those of you who have known me might be surprised by this, as I've criticized Apple for years. And I still do -- I think they're nothing more than a megacorp with an ass-kicking marketing department and a better industrial design team than most tech companies (which isn't hard, considering most tech companies suck at industrial design). But I've been trying to find a way to distinguish myself from the imperial fucktons of software engineers in this area, and I think this might help. Somebody's gotta be looking for Mac programmers around here. Besides, it might be fun, and if the project's good enough to impress the people at WWDC, I might get something out of it. Like a Powerbook and a 20" Studio display.

So far, everything's going pretty smoothly, though to be fair we just started on Cocoa data types. Objective-C I can deal with, though I find the two different function call types a bit confusing at times. The Foundation classes are also confusing ("Associative arrays? Oh, you mean dictionaries."). But hopefully I can figure it out before we do anything serious.

Oh, also -- I don't have a Mac. If there is anyone who can loan me one with OS X and development tools for a bit next semester, let me know. Thanks.
