Nov. 19th, 2003 01:13 amMy laptop's standby has mysteriously fixed itself. I don't know what I did, but it's fixed.
Was busy for most of the week doing my Unix project. Simple enough, except for making string variables in C using character arrays. Ended up pulling my hair out over one thing that lost me 10 points of extra credit: If one wants to turn an integer into a string in C, one needs to declare a character array, then use sprintf(array_name, "%d", integer) on it. Apparently I took the function's spec of a character pointer literally. It borked sprintf(), which in turn borked exec, which in turn borked the whole damn thing. I should have known better the ways of C. In fairness, though, they can't expect students who have never programmed in C before and who have been exposed to C++ to get this stuff right on the first try.
SGA was productive. Apparently Maroon Effect made a huge profit (~$14k) when they weren't expecting to get any. So, SGA has $12k extra, and that will be put to use shortly, about half of it going to pay for T-shirts for the SGA for a new program they're doing to get students to bring them issues that the SGA could fix. That and a huge plywood wall that students can write issues on. Whee. Also, SGA's starting a program creating a non-discrimination pledge that they're bringing to businesses to sign -- this is the result of the lesbian discrimination incident I talked about earlier. Oh, and the Math Emporium may be getting wireless access; all the manager needed to secure funding (he says) was a resolution from the SGA expressing student opinion on the matter, which passed tonight. Yay.
Not much else happening. I'll be restarting work on my OOP project tomorrow. I'm leaving either Friday afternoon or Saturday morning for Home. I will have limited net access then.
