UVA called me. I got the job! :-D I start June 9th, and in the meantime I have to do all the bureaucratic stuff -- getting an appointment for a background check and a drug test* is the first step. Called the drug test lady today, but she wasn't in and her voice mailbox is full. Good thing I have a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, I have other battles to fight. Neandertech, the ISP I signed up for, is still being unresponsive. I pulled their phone number from the WHOIS database. Called them up. They have no call queue system, which means that if they're on the line with someone, others are forced to leave a message or try again later. Then, when one finally gets through, you get...another answering machine! I sat there wondering whether there was an actual human to contact there or if their whole operation was merely a collection of machines that take your money and give you nothing in return. It's now been almost 6 days since I signed up and I still don't have login information. This is becoming serious. I don't know what I can do. Mom's going to be pissed, though. $11.50 of her money is down the tubes (2 months @ $5.75/month).

When I wasn't on the phone trying to find intelligent life at my ISP, the phone was ringing off the hook with calls from Mom (who calls frequently to check on me despite the fact I'm 19 years old), the background check lady (who I left a message with; she told me to call her back and tell her when my drug test was so she could be ready for me then), and a guy that thought we were the computer store whose phone number is close to ours. What does a guy have to do to get some peace and quiet around here?
