Post-{Insert Winter Holiday Here} Report
Dec. 26th, 2005 01:15 amThis year's Christmas was okay, albeit anything but peaceful. First, a few relatives were a bit late in arriving, and Tavia, who, by all accounts, wasn't showing up, did, giving Mom 20 minutes' notice to prepare her stocking. Meanwhile, I was treated to my two toddler nephews. Then I was charged with the delivery of the presents, which, given the missing relatives this year was a bit daunting. Eventually, I got it done, however, and was given time to open my presents. Thankfully, I was able to do this in peace and quiet.
My take this year consisted mostly of video DVDs. Here it is:
- Seasons 2 and 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Was expecting one or the other, but not both.
- Volume 1 of the Scripts of Babylon 5. Asked for this, and it's very interesting. Contained within it is the alternate script for the pilot, as well as some production memos and some notes from JMS on the creation of the series and the written scripts. There are to be 14 volumes of scripts, all written by JMS. Those who collect all 14 get Volume 15, which contains, among other things, the series bible and other rarities. If any of you would like to be really nice to me on a gift-giving holiday, you could get me a volume. I would very much not object. You can find them here.
- Various bits of clothing. Two ties, some dress shirts, a long-sleeve T-shirt, a plaid scarf, and a package of socks. Nothing to cream one's pants over.
- A bottle of cologne. Another traditional gift for a hard-to-shop-for man. I have about 12 of these.
- A $10 Wal-Mart gift card. The givers of this gave everyone this. It's OK, though -- I have...plans...for this one. *grins evilly*
- $10 in cash. Not expected, but added to the Evil Plan Fund. Heh heh heh.
- A pocket organizer. Not sure what to do with this, given that I have my Zaurus. I guess the one thing this has over the Zaurus is that the alarm works when it's turned off. Hmm...Update: Fixed the alarm. Not very hard to do, either. So I decided to give it to Mom for her getting me Serenity at Wal-Mart tonight.
- A duffel bag with the Boy Scout logo on it. Mom exercising her employee discount again. It's a good duffel, albeit missing a shoulder strap. Mom says she'll look into it when we get back.
- Various miscellaneous movie DVDs. Jumanji, Spy Game, US Marshals, The Aviator, Hot Shots Part Deux, and The Net. A few are full screen versions, which I don't particularly care for. May return them to pick up Serenity. Not sure yet.
- A CD player case.Somewhat useless, since I don't use CD players anymore.
- And, finally, something that took me completely (though pleasantly) by surprise, The entire DVD set of Monty Python's Flying Circus, including their live shows! Good gods! Mom certainly outdid herself this time. Now I'll have to spend 22 and a half hours watching them all. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. *looks up at TV* Ooh, tits! :D
- Also, forgot to mention earlier The complete series of Futurama. Yay! :)
After my gift unwrapping, I tried calling people on my cell to wish them a Happy {Insert Winter Holiday Here}. This plan was foiled -- apparently, Tracfone's wireless carrier in WV requires a credit card for any roaming calls. Couldn't afford that with MagFest coming up soon, so I skipped it. If you were on my friends list, you were a likely target of this, so consider yourselves phoned. I might have better luck at New Year's.
Anyway, that's about it, so I hope you all had a Happy {Insert Winter Holiday Here}, and for those of you on the Gregorian calendar, have a Happy New Year as well!
