By *participating* in such projects is how they end up not being beyond you. You work on the parts you can just barely not do, and you end up being able to do them, and you learn something. It's the same principle as getting a graduate degree - you go in with nothing but a theory, and come out the other end the expert on it. Don't not participate in something that you're interested in just because you don't know what you're doing. That's what you're supposed to be doing here - learning things you don't know...
