Sep. 26th, 2007 02:52 pm$48.50 a month for a 100Mb up/100Mb down connection in Hong Kong.
I pay $45/month now for 4Mb down/384kb up. Hong Kong makes US prices look absolutely insane. And while this may be a statistical outlier, it isn't much of one. France Telecom sells 18Mb down/800kb up DSL plus digital cable for $50/month. Canadian ISPs offer 5Mb down DSL for $45/month. Meanwhile, Americans settle for 2 Mb down for the same price.
And every time we bitch about slow speeds, the telcos bitch at us about "overutilized resources". Translation: we're using the net more for filesharing and online video than we are for looking at websites and checking e-mail. Yeeeeah.
1998 called, it wants its fiber back.
