Gods-fucking-DAMMIT.
Jul. 27th, 2005 07:37 am"I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace, that two are called a law firm, and that three or more become a Congress. And by God, I have had this Congress!"
John Adams, from 1776, and I can understand how he feels, especially after this news just came in from Slashdot, where the House is calling for an FTC investigation into Rockstar over whether or not they intentionally misled the ESRB over the Hot Coffee content in order to "peddle game to children."
Ferfuckssake, how much more do they want? San Andreas is rated AO, someone over at Rockstar wil undoubtedly be canned over this, they're going to lose big with the mass recall and reissue they have to do with retailers (for not a one will carry the AO-rated version), and they (along with the rest of the video game industry) will never be able to release a video game again without clearing it with the right-wing groups involved in this, lest they start foaming at the mouth. And all this for content not even part of the final fucking game! Not to mention that the software is rated Mature to begin with, and all of the major retailers have age policies now, so if anyone's to blame for OMGWTFBBQSEX, it's the parents for buying the video games for their children before determining whether or not they could deal with the subject matter. But that's not good enough for the US House of Representatives.
For any of the morons congressmen happening upon this post: They weren't trying to decieve anyone. Locked content, inaccessible by conventional means, is a common thing in video games. The content that is oh-so-controversial in a video game wouldn't have raised an eyebrow in an R-rated movie. The fact that you consider drive-by shootings, drugs, murder, car theft, and reckless driving to be OK in a video game but sex with one's date to be reprehensible is a sign of a fucked-up sense of priorities. And, above all else, IT. WASN'T. MADE. FOR. KIDS. YOU. IDIOTS!
If anyone needs me, I'll be at the Capitol building, curing ignorance with a clue-by-four.
Note to Agents watching this: No, I won't. I know it's hard, but try to have a sense of humor.
