Watched Val Helsing with anterus,
murrday, and
brenderlin. I'd put it in the same category as Underworld -- worth a matinee. Unfortunately, I paid full student price for it. Lots of action scenes, but if you come expecting plot, you'll be disappointed.
I have decided to be SGA rep for vtsffc next year. As it happened, the new speaker of the SGA House was holding a get-together at his place on Saturday (the 8th). I figured that it would be to my advantage to get to know some of these people, so I went. Turned out to be the typical frat party -- centered mostly around alcohol. Thankfully, they all respected my choice to not drink. Eventually, I left -- I wasn't having fun, and most of the people there were either getting really wasted or going out somewhere else. A friend of mine from high school, I found out, was a very bad drunk, and I left at about the time he was fishing a baby bird out of its nest. And these, ladies and gentlemen, are members of student government.
One of the hard drives started making clicks of death yesterday. Turns out it was the Linux drive (I have two drives -- the Linux drive and the Windows drive). I wasn't surprised much (it was old), but I'll eventually have to replace it. I moved all of my critical data onto the Windows drive (explore2fs is a beautiful thing). I figure I'll replace it with a 20 gig (the old drive's an 8 gig) when I get the cash.
Talked to Mom today -- mainly, to wish her a Happy Mother's Day and to update her on the situation. She wants me to work at the lab again. I told her I wasn't really wanting to, and that I had contacts I wished to pursue. She wants me to work at the lab anyway until something solid turned up. While that's sensible, I rebel at the thought at working there any more than I have to.
And she's got her vacation planned out. The week before tadakimacun's graduation, she's going up to Grandma's. She planned this all when I was scoping out staying in Blacksburg, so I wasn't factored into their plans, which includes visits to glass blowers, the Amish country, and other places that I don't find particularly attractive. Of course, I could choose not to go, but then Grandma would get upset. I'll probably just go to keep her happy. Besides, I have a laptop, so I can keep myself entertained.
As things are, this is pretty lousy. No friends, lousy Internet, and having to do computer related things to boost my resume on top of working a physically exhausting job ("Oh, Jesus Christ, Andrew! It's not exhausting!" my Mom said). But in two days' time, that's what I'll be facing.
I have my ECE exam tomorrow. I'll be studying for it, then going to bed.
