(no subject)

Had my job interview on Monday. It seemed OK -- I've had better, but I've had worse. Worried about the propensity of "um"s and "uh"s in my speech (I do that when I'm nervous -- this is, after all, my ticket to staying in Blacksburg this summer) and my general lack of job experience with databases.

I am worried about this job. While the interviewers told me they were looking at recruiting "several" students to fill vacancies left by others graduating, looking at their sign-up sheet I counted 7 people before me interviewing, and that was just on Monday. Another person I know had an interview with them today, so there are at least 20 applicants, and probably closer to 25, assuming that today was the last day of interviews. This, needless to say, does not bode well for me.

It would suck if I had to go back to C-Ville. I am thoroughly sick of that lab. Mom even suggested that I go to night shift with her (she switched a month ago). That isn't doable from my POV since I would have to shift my sleep schedule twice in three months. And I've got Origins and [livejournal.com profile] tadakimacun's graduation to think about. Plus, there's nothing really for me in C-Ville anymore -- no computer jobs to speak of (unless they've been hiding from me somewhere), no friends (we've all either lost touch or moved on elsewhere, and really nothing to do. And I have no way to get about town conveniently (the bus system in C-Ville isn't as nice as the one in Blaxtiansburg), so even if there was something to do, I wouldn't be able to get to it.

I really hope I get this job. Cross your fingers for me, everyone...

May you have success!

Hoping to see you at summer events! :)

It also depends on how many positions they are trying to fill. If there are 20 people and 7-10 positions, it's a whole different thing than 20 people and 2 positions, but I'll bet they're filling more than two positions.

Best of luck.

Rotating your sleep schedule twice in three months? Um, there's times when I have to do it twice in a week. Most shift workers have to rotate every couple of weeks. It's not hard. You just need at least one dead day to do it right, or you do end up dead.
