Ugh. Stayed up till 4 AM writing paper for HST. Ended up oversleeping and missing SF class and part of HST. I am so very dead. On top of that, I've got so much else that I have to do, I feel like I'm going to croak, if the other teachers don't fail me for missing their classes first...I feel like I'm going insane.

Well, at least you got the paper in on time. You did get the paper in on time, right?

Yeah.

Welcome to the end of freshman year... Wait until you oversleep for a final, that's always a treat. I was 20 mintues late to one, which was ok, because the professor was 35 minutes late.

Just divide your time, take periodic breaks, and when you've done what you can do, whether it's your best work or not, learn to walk away, because if you overstress on crap you can't fix anymore, you screw up what you *can* fix. Part of surviving college is learning the art of creative punting.

The degree is called a "BS" for a good reason. :-)

Gee, thanks. Nice to know my education, my parents' $15K a year, and the little piece of paper I'll get in a few years has value.

Your parents pay for college? Quite a lucky fella, ain'cha? My entire education is riding on 20 year loans, I'm graduating with a mortgage. $68,900 at last count, not including the interest aggregate for the private loan deferments.

Your education most certainly has value. You learn math, programming, science, whatever. Hopefully you then apply that basic knowledge to solving problems in the future. In addition, you learn how to work with (or without) other people, how to assign yourself to a task successfully, and when to draw the line. Eventually, just like Ron said, you know it's time to stop fixing shit. Me, when I reach that point, I pile on the BS so it's not so obvious the rest of my results are useless, and I go to sleep.

I like that "creative punting" comment actually... I have a vision of a certain professor's head being held up by Lucy as I run to kick it.. and promptly fall flat on my ass. Weee!

Well, OK, my mom isn't paying for all my college; I, too, will have a shitload of loans to pay off when I get out of this. But that's the American Way, isn't it?

Don't worry about SF, you didn't miss much. Hatfield just talked about the end of Blood Music and trancendance (made some comparisons to Childhood's End). Started on Snow Crash a bit but not too much.
Hatfield did tell us that he's going to change our final exam from the exam period on the 6th to an online exam that'll be up for the entire exam week.
